Gayndah pre-season forum “one of the best”

Nearly 60 growers attended a recent pre-season regional forum in Gayndah. The forum raised pressing topics for the coming season, with a wide-range of speakers.

The morning session focused on some of the recent developments in the industry including the Horticulture Code of Conduct, agrichemical updates, and the NSW DPI Mandarin Production Manual.

In the afternoon, the group visited Geoff Morgan’s orchard which proved the perfect setting for growers to discuss their own techniques and experiences. Darren Minter travelled from the Murray Valley to share his own stories.

“It was good of Darren to come up to Gayndah. It’s always really interesting to hear what people are doing in other regions and compare it to what we do here” said Gayndah grower Matthew Benham.

“This forum had to be one of the best. What I really liked was this ongoing theme of soil biology looking at the natural biological growing methods. It felt like the event had a real focus on growers, so I got a lot out of it”

Growers returned to the Gayndah Bowls Club for a social BBQ provided by Adama Australia.

“The stories that growers told about their own orchards was fascinating. Local growers who knew the climate back-to-front were able to lend their experience to the group. It’s one of those opportunities for the citrus community to come together and connect with their local growers, people who have a lot of things in common. I think everyone appreciated the opportunity to meet and share stories,” said Mara Milner, organiser of the event.
