On 24 August, the APVMA renewed two permits for Samurai (Clothianidin) with some significant amendments to control citrus gall wasp. This has come as welcome news in time for the spring of 2017.

The main amendment is in relation to timing of sprays. The permits now state that the product cannot be applied until two weeks after flowering has finished to give beekeepers time to remove hives from the area.

Samurai is dangerous to bees and may kill bees foraging in the crop at the time of application. We emphasise that continued access to modern agrichemicals is dependent upon growers using products responsibly.

Citrus Australia will continue to work with Sumitomo to achieve product registration before the permits expire. The permits may be found online at: https://portal.apvma.gov.au/permits
