Citrus Australia continues to work directly on canker issue

Citrus Australia continues to work directly with the Consultative Committee on Emergency Plant Pests (CCEPP) to address canker with a specific focus on communicating with growers.

Growers are encouraged to update email contacts with Citrus Australia admin to ensure they are kept up to date.

The CCEPP is Australia’s key technical body for coordinating national responses to issues such as canker. It operates under the Emergency Plant Pest Response Deed to which Citrus Australia is a signatory.

All citrus plants on infected premises have been destroyed, and both NT and WA have put movement controls and quarantine measures in place to contain citrus canker.

Surveillance of citrus production areas has not detected the disease in any citrus orchards. All available evidence indicates that citrus canker is restricted to potted plants in the home and garden sector.

Extensive tracing in NT and interstate has been taken on a plant-by-plant basis and has yielded no positive results except plants in the NT and for WA’s north.

Growers should not collect a sample or move suspected plants. If you think you have a plant with citrus canker, or if you have recently sourced citrus plants from the Northern Territory, please contact the Exotic Plant Pest Hotline on 1800 084 881.
