Citrus Australia conducted tests on Goldup and Imperial Mandarins in the Central Burnett region, and early season navels in the Riverland.

A snapshot of the pre-season testing results and presented below. Full results are available to all Citrus Australia members. If you are a member seeking the full results please contact Mara Miler at mara.milner@citrusaustralia.com.au or on 0499 994 592.

Goldup and Imperial mandarins

  • 9 Growers were visited and samples were taken from a total of 16 sites
  • 30 fruit were taken per sample and tested against the BrimA standard at a nearby facilitiy

The results of the 30 fruit and the averages were independently sent to the participating growers. The average results indicated that half the samples tested achieved the minimum standard, a number of samples were marginal, and a number of samples did not meet specification.

We detected only a small amount of internal dryness in the samples and in most cases, colour break had been reached.

Early season navels

  • 8 growers were visited and samples were taken from a total of 11 sites
  • 12 fruit were taken per sample and tested against the BrimA standard

The results of the 12 fruit and the average were independently sent to the participating growers. The average reuslts indicate that more than half the samples tested achieved the minimum standard, one sample was marginal, and a few samples did not meet specification.

Overall colour break and internal juice content was further advanced for the M7 variety compared to the Navelina and Newhall.
