Citrus exports continue record breaking run

Citrus export facts

Citrus exports this year have so far been squeezing profits, with record-breaking volume and value seen.

To the end of August 2017 161,111 tonnes worth $277.6 million of citrus had been exported. These figures soared above last year with an 11% increase by volume and 23% increase by value.

Oranges were the most popular export but mandarins this year saw the highest growth, with a 23% higher volume exported than last year.

China (excluding Hong Kong) is now our biggest single export

China (excluding Hong Kong) is now our biggest single export market. Efforts this year have seen a total of 46,512 tonnes exported so far, a figure that already surpasses last year’s total export volume to China of 39,591 tonnes.

On a month by month basis the August exports for mandarins were 20% higher than for the same month in 2016. At 22,498 t the volume was a record for mandarin exports for any single month.

The results this year so far have been very positive for citrus’ export.
