Are you bogged mate?
Mary O’Brien is no stranger to the agricultural industry. Born and raised in the Darling Downs region of Queensland she has her head wrapped around the issues faced by rural country men. Mary studied science and agriculture, working in Queensland and New South Wales with a passion for sustainable agriculture and interests in spray drift, application risk management, and chemical use. Mary assists growers through workshops in spray drift risk management and is a strong advocate for all sectors of agriculture.
But Mary couldn’t ignore one particular challenge faced by country men. In 2018, Mary O’Brien wrote Are You Bogged Mate? which spread far and wide gaining international attention.
Mary’s workshops and devotion has since made a significant impact on rural men’s mental health and she was been recognised with the Queensland 2020 Men’s Health Award, national Women Working In Men’s Health Award, and recently 2021 Queensland Nominee Local Hero.
